Why Tangy Exists
Online socializing has become increasingly structured, algorithmic, and siloed. Most platforms encourage building permanent profiles, collecting followers, and filtering interactions through complex feeds. While this is great for keeping up with existing friends, it leaves little room for the spontaneous, unscripted human encounters that defined the early internet.
When the legendary random chat platform Omegle shut its doors in late 2023, it left a massive void. Millions of users lost a simple outlet for meeting random people from different walks of life. Unfortunately, many replacements that popped up were filled with intrusive ads, paywalled basic features, or required users to surrender private email addresses.
Tangy was built to restore that lost space of genuine, free, and completely anonymous random connection. We believe that chatting with strangers should be safe, lightning-fast, and accessible to anyone with a browser.
Our Technology
Tangy is built using modern web technologies that focus on speed, low latency, and security. Here is how our network functions under the hood:
- WebRTC (Web Real-Time Communication): Tangy uses peer-to-peer WebRTC technology for our video and audio chats. This means your camera and microphone streams travel directly from your browser to your partner's browser. Video data is encrypted in transit and never passes through or gets recorded on our servers.
- WebSockets for Instant Matching: Our matching engine operates using high-frequency WebSockets. When you click "Start", our central server matches your session with an available peer in under 3 seconds based on shared interest tags. Once the connection is established, the server steps back, leaving a direct peer-to-peer link.
- Global Relay Network: When direct P2P connections are blocked by strict firewalls or mobile carriers, Tangy automatically routes the encrypted traffic through low-latency STUN/TURN relay servers located in Virginia (US East), Texas (US Central), and Oregon (US West). This ensures high connect rates across any mobile network.
Privacy-First Policies
Your privacy isn't just a setting on Tangy — it is our fundamental design. We protect our community with strict operational principles:
- No Registration Required: We do not ask for emails, phone numbers, social logins, or names. You are completely anonymous.
- Zero Chat Logging: Text chats are ephemerally routed. The moment you click "Next" or close the browser, all chat logs from that session are deleted permanently.
- No Tracking Cookies: Tangy does not use advertising tracking scripts or profile-building cookies. We do not sell or monetize user behavior.
Safety & Community Moderation
Because Tangy connects random strangers anonymously, we implement strict safety measures. All users must confirm they are 18 or older to enter. We provide a one-click **Report** button in every chat session. Our backend utilizes automated filtering and manual reviews to quickly ban IP addresses associated with harassment, explicit material, or spam.
We urge all members of our community to practice safe browsing habits: never share personal identifiers, home addresses, financial details, or social media usernames with people you meet on the platform.
